Those closest to us.

There were many enjoyable elements in this past weekend’s trip that Farron and I took to visit Gabby. Seeing her shine at academic achievements, adventure to new places together, taking time to just be…and enjoy the company of one another, and of course, getting to photograph Justin and Gabby for the first time together. More to come on the rest of the trip but today, I want to share how important I feel it is to make memories with, and of, those closest to us.

My whole career and passion as a photographer started with my two girls. Even though I always had a camera on hand, even as a youngster capturing “stuff”, memories, things I thought were cool, it really blossomed into what it is today, because of my daughters.

I know that personally it is easy to get caught up in what gets likes and follows when we are sharing our world (or what we would like our world to look like) on social platforms, and I often check myself to make sure that I am staying true to me, my own unique essence and individuality, and photographing/sharing images that MEAN something to me. It’s kindaaaaa the basis of my vision, lol, feeling/meaning/meaninfulness…and I don’t ever want to lose sight of that.

I could seek out all the most jaw dropping locations in the world to photograph, and don’t get me wrong, that’s FUN and satisfying, but bottom line, the most important thing to me to capture on a personal level, is my children, my family, my friends and my/our lives.

This, is Gabby and Justin.

Life flows just like it “should”

Meeting in college, and finding joy in each other in the daily lives they live.

We decided to shoot before my Mother’s Day celebration (since I won’t see my little chickens on the actual day) and the evening had turned windy and a slight bit cooler!

Together

“Fall in love with someone who is both your safe place and your biggest adventure” — Bianca Sparacino

You can hear all the stories of the fun times as well as the struggles, but getting to witness a relationship in person is the best way to get a real feel for things. I love the dynamic between Gabby and Justin. They love to play, they love to laugh and they they can tackle seriousness when needed. It was such fun to see this all play out in front of me.

As we wrapped up our time shooting, I had to take a moment to shoot a couple of Polaroid images for the always fun “Polaroid Week” that analog shooters like to enjoy a couple of times a year! They were actually some of my favorites of the session!

I will cherish every moment I get with my girls. It’s so very hard sometimes to see them growing up and forming their own lives, outside of life with me. On the other hand, it’s so very satisfying to see them succeed in life, as the gift we are given with them, is to help them grow to be productive, kind and contributing adults. I still miss them. I suppose that will never change no matter how old they are, or I am.

This, is why I take any opportunity I can to make a picture. It will last me a lifetime.

Thank you for tuning in this week, and always. I appreciate your interest in my journey!

Until next week…
