Being inspired in the concrete jungle.
If you follow along either one of my Instagram accounts https://www.instagram.com/mypassionmyvision/ or https://www.instagram.com/suzanne.lopez/ , you will have probably noticed a theme trending that is a little different than my past gallery. I mentioned the other day, my two favorite subjects to photograph for the last 22 and 20 years have flown the coop and now I must find other opportunities to be inspired and seek adventure! This life event has forced me to try to learn something new!
Lately I have been super inspired by some street photography I have been blessed to come across. I decided to take some time to go completely out of my comfort zone of portraits and hiking trails, I have ventured into the realm of seeking beauty where you might least expect it! I am inspired to train my eye to see lines in metal, reflection, details, and something other than nature! It has been really enjoyable and satisfying!
This idea is kind of along the lines as the blog I made about shooting in black and white versus color, and how it takes an “eye” to see that way. I am drawn to color, so it’s tricky for me to really see in b/w. This is the same idea for me in this new way of thinking. I am used to people and surroundings filled with elements of mother nature as a backdrop. Studying great artists who shoot interesting street work, was what I needed to start thinking differently, and realizing how there is truly something special in the every day!
I have been shooting a lot in a drive by style…sounds awful lol, but sometimes things catch my eye as I’m in transit and the moment will not be back, ever. If I know I am out to observe, I make sure to have my camera set to where I can just pause at a light and make the image I want to with a quick twist of the focus ring! I’ve even been known to shoot on the fly if it is not safe to lift the camera to my eye! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, which is part of the fun!!
The black and white shot above was taken out the window of a moving car (I was not driving lol), and is a favorite to date.
I focused on things that I found interesting …. Whether it’s movement, color, angles or light, if I found it interesting, I made the frame.
My eye still gravitated towards people, and I love to observe how they move through their environment. I find them fascinating and unique and more than once have wanted to go talk to them to learn more.
I will definitely be enjoying more of this to add to my bag of tricks! The diversity that you can build in your skill and passions are endless!!
This weekend will find me on a trip with the aforementioned favorite subjects to photograph, therefore a blog will be coming on our antics no doubt!! lol
Thank you thank you for being interested in MY life and journey! Reach out so I can know more about YOURS!!!
Until next week…
