Light - as my subject.

What I’ve noticed when looking back through my personal work as a whole, is my subject can change a lot, based on what it is that my eye finds interesting. I think it is also interesting how frequently I use “light” as the subject of my photo. I mean, photography is very much about light at a very basic level, and how light can affect the image you are creating, and generate a certain sense of mood. Light can make you feel optimism, metaphorical darkness, sadness, hope, mystery….and the list goes on. Not that there aren’t other elements within the photo that may be interesting to another viewer, but often times light is what made me lift my camera to shoot.

I thought it would be fun to go back and pull images, just from the last year, that centered around the light I saw. My cover image was taken on an evening walk during one of Chris and my trips to visit our son/step son Alex in Gunnison, CO. We were staying at a cabin, in a campground that had a WHOLE LOT of open space around it. I was mesmerized by the light, the wide open spaces, and how it all melded together to create a scene so beautiful I couldn’t stand it. It held me.

I am going to share a selection of images below that were created primarily based on my observation of the light, how it fell, and how it made me feel.

What are you usually drawn to as your subject? My answer normally would be people and environment. Pondering light as my subject was an interesting study.

I hope this was somewhat interesting to you as well. As always, I love talking photography, and welcome conversation so please always feel free to reach out to chat, say hello, or ask questions!! It would be fun to connect!

Until next time, love and health to all!!
