Portrait session, thousands of miles away!
When we had the world locked down to help stop the spread of Covid 19, virtual photoshoots became a “thing” amongst many photographers. We creatives have this internal need, a need to be creating, shooting images, for many of us… we NEED this on a daily basis. Being isolated, and not able to do what we crave, really pushed innovations so that we could still scratch that itch that we yearn for!
I met Roxanna on social media. We have a similar taste in aesthetics for our photography, and both thoroughly embrace the imperfections of expired film, lomography cameras, lomography films, and stuff that probably goes way against the “rules” of what makes a good photograph. Our love for the imperfect, made a virtual shoot feel like a really enticing endeavor, and we put it on our calendars! These shoots have been done by others via digital cameras or screen shots on the phone. I tried that method too (the later), and enjoyed that as well! It just rendered a little different result!!
Back to THIS shoot. Roxanna, living in Palm Desert California, has probably one of the most beautiful back yards I’ve seen, and I immediately wanted to have access to every nook and cranny as she gave me the grand tour of my backdrop! We started on one side of the yard, and after 1-2 shots, I would move her around to a new location that looked so enticing to me. She would set her phone so that it encompassed the look I wanted, and I would get her situated so that I could make my shot!
This type of shoot was SOOO very fun for us!! You absolutely have to be OKAY with photos that aren’t perfect by definition. To US, they were marvelous, and just what we were each looking for out of our own shoots! Below I’m going to share my favorites, there are many!
When you have your routine uprooted, you innovate! Will these be suitable to print in huge sizes? Nope. Will they be a great memory, good enough to have a small print of, and an experience that may never have happened without Covid? Yes!!!
If you find yourself in a position of not being able to do something like you were used to, find a new way! We weren’t unique, a lot of photogs got in on this, all creating a little different types of content!! To Roxanna and I, it was a really cool experience to shoot together when that may never really happen in person! I still keep my fingers crossed though that we WILL get to meet up eventually!! We were excited to bring our own personal touches, and share photos with someone else. It was such a positive experience, and I can only imagine I will be better at it next time! I can’t wait to do it again!!
So thank you for being here and enjoying the ride of this virtual shoot! If you have any questions, reach out! I lerveeee chatting about photography!!
Until next time….
<3 and love to you all!!
