A missed week and an adventure with snakes!
So it was brought to my attention that I COMPLETELY forgot to make a blog entry last week! WOW Suz…. I am typically so good about staying on schedule and NOT forgetting my “plan”…so I must apologize! Being a holiday week, me, trying to juggle gym work, multiple photo shoots, getting everything to my standards around the house before heading out and packing / preparing to travel to/with family for the 4th, It completely slipped my mind!! lol.
So, here we are…..
One young man I was thrilled to work with last week, was the brother of one of Farron’s best friends. He is a cool, smart, kind , polite and handsome young man who was willing to chill, meander and shoot to our hearts content, and was probably as excited about my 7 film images I took on my newly fixed camera as I was!!! Talk about thrilling for this girl!!
We found ourselves in Golden, a favorite spot for many local photographers, but I usually take it a step further on where we go! We had a beautiful overcast and mild day. Seriously, it could not have been more perfect!
We always go away from the main stream areas, to seek out more elusive locations before hitting the more common places. We climbed around, sat in grasses, and encountered a rather large snake which yes, scared the POO out of us both and had us scanning the ground every few seconds that we were in the area! As we headed back to the main trail and were making our way to the next location, a kind lady stopped us an mentioned that poison oak is rampant this year, and seeing we were lolly gagging around in the brush, we would behoove ourselves to wash off the old calves and ankles as soon as we got home lol. Well darn, that was a great start to the time we had together!!
We made our way back along the creek and stopped a few times just to see what we had to work with, and sometimes to take intentional shots. I love being able to work with kids like Alex who had no agenda, just was there to create a memory of this moment in his life with me, and was happy chatting about his dreams, goals and random stuff like some funny memories we have about the state of my own daughter’s senior pictures and the yearbook blunder…lol.

Making our way back into the historical park, we met up with a friend of Alex’s who lives in Golden, and he stayed to hang with us for a few! It was fun having more kids to learn more about, as remember, this is probably my all time favorite age to photograph!
We wrapped things up in the historical park with one of my favorite buildings, and encountered yet anther snake, this time way more visible so it didn’t startle me as much! lol
Alex is a saxophone player, and it’s a pretty significant part of his current and future life. We wanted to be able to get a little piece of that in the session so our last adventure was finding places to make this element shine.
Welp, that about wraps it up! Through the funny episodes, the weather that could not have been more perfect, and the conversation and connection I felt with Alex left me feeling satisfied and excited to see all the images we walked away with. Turns out, we did good. ;-)
I will try to be more on my “A” game next week and not throw a space ball out into left field. I have lots of fun stuff to share that I’m excited about so I look forward to writing and planning!!
